Robyn Mulligan

Robyn, one of our exceptional cooks, brings a lifetime of culinary experience and a deep love for the sea to our team. Her story is as rich and flavorful as the dishes she creates.

Robyn’s connection to the sea runs deep. Her father was a Cray fisherman, owning two boats, the Capri and the Shangri La—the latter now owned by Rewi Bull, a close friend of Takapu Charters. Robyn has lived by the sea for most of her life, spending countless hours kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating.

Her culinary journey began early, taking to the seas as a cook for Colin Gavin, affectionately known as "Wobbles," on the Argus, a vessel making trips around Stewart Island. Robyn first visited Preservation Inlet in the 90s on a seven-day trip aboard the Argus, celebrating New Year's Eve at the Kisbee Lodge—an adventure that still brings a smile to her face.

In 2012, Takapu Charters was looking for a cook for the next season. "Wobbles" recommended visiting the Aparima Restaurant and Bar to find Robyn, who had owned and operated the establishment for 12 years. The opportunity to spend significant time in the Fiords was a dream come true for Robyn.

With a lifetime of cooking experience, Robyn loves experimenting with food and trying new ideas. Her culinary adventures extend beyond our shores, as she takes cooking classes whenever she travels, constantly expanding her repertoire. Robyn’s passion for cooking is matched by her love for meeting new people, especially those who share her appreciation for the sea and its abundant food sources.

Over the years, she has collaborated with many skippers and deckhands, forging lasting friendships and creating a warm, welcoming environment for our guests. She cherishes the returning groups who become like extended family and is always eager to welcome new faces aboard.

Join us on a charter and enjoy Robyn’s delightful cuisine while creating unforgettable memories at sea!
